Why do I have to come to the Language Learning Center?
Learning another language requires more than just a few hours a week in the classroom. Also, not all students learn in the same way- some are more visually-inclined, others more aurally-inclined, and others more verbally-inclined. The Learning Center offers a variety of resources to assist all learning styles.
What can I do here?
You can listen to the audio files for your lab manual, watch videos, visit foreign language websites, watch univision (if you are enrolled in a spanish class), type compositions and play the foreign language games on our websites.
How do I log on to OUNET?
Your OUNET ID is the first 4 letters of your last name followed by the last 4 digits of your Student ID number (Ex. smit2375). If you have never used OUNET before, your default password is "pass" followed by your birth month and birthday, which must be MUST be two digits (Ex. pass0214).
Do I have to come an hour a week or do I simply need to have a certain number of hours by the end of the semester?
It is best to come an hour each week. Most instructors DO grade you on a weekly basis. Nevertheless, no one wants to have to spend several hours in the Learning Center at the end of the semester.
Why can I no longer get credit for studying?
The Learning Center has seen a dramatic increase in the number of foreign language students and this number will continue to increase. There is simply not enough room to allow students to study. Another and more important reason is that many instructors have expressed concerns that students are not adequately utilizing the Learning Center's resources.
How can I listern to the audio files?
Audio files are password protected. Your username and password should be your OU 4+4 and your password should be your normal OU password. There have been some difficulties accessing these pages remotely. If you are experiencing difficulties please send an e-mail to verbick@ou.edu detailing your problem. Please indicate what operating system and Web Browser you are using.
